QUESTION marks remain on
key players for Collingwood and
Geelong as both clubs keep their
options open until the last minute.
Geelong coach Chris Scott said at
training yesterday forward Steve
Johnson needs to pass a Friday
fitness test, but the doubts will
remain until Saturday morning.
Johnson, recovering from a knee
injury, was one of two notable
absentees from the Cats’ training
session, along with running
defender David Wojcinski.
While Scott said he would not
know until at least Friday, possibly
Saturday morning, whether
Johnson would be fit to take on
Collingwood, he was less concerned
“He’s just got a little bit of a sore
Achilles, calf, but this is not a
session traditionally where we have
everyone out here,” Scott said of
the 31-year-old dual premiership
“He’ll be out there tomorrow night,
there’s no problem with him.”
Johnson’s hyperbaric chamber-
enhanced recovery from the knee
injury he sustained against West
Coast on Saturday remained far less
predictable. Read more

A HUMBLE John Worsfold thanked
his players for going beyond even his

thought they could,” Worsfold said.

“We all learn a lot from some of the
hardships of our life, the doubt that
people try to push onto the group,

the bottom for a long period of time.
“They didn’t train in the pre-season

Redbacks on their winning way
CALLUM Ferguson fired with the bat to lead
South Australia to a comprehensive 19-run
Champions League win over Kolkata Knight
Riders, keeping their hopes alive in the
Twenty20 tournament in India.
After a first-up loss to South African side
the Warriors, the Redbacks’ chances of
remaining competitive in the round robin
pool stage relied heavily on them beating
the Knight Riders in Hyderabad.
The Redbacks batted first, and Australian
one day representative Ferguson combined
for an 80-run partnership with Daniel
Christian (42 from 27) to spur the Big Bash
champions to a sizeable total of 5-188.
South Australia then did the job with the
ball, the Knight Riders finishing well short
at 9-169 from their 20 overs.
Ferguson came in at first drop and
recovered from a shaky start to smash his
way to an unbeaten 70 off just... Read more
